Any long-term issues painting with oil+Liquin on unsealed Unprimed Basswood?

Artist Question: I painted on an Unprimed Basswood panel with oil paint + Liquin over a year ago but didn’t seal the panel first. It still looks great. Could there be long-term issues?

A: SID is only a concern with water-based media. For oils, sealing before priming mainly prevents sinking in. If your painting shows no matte spots, the addition of alkyd medium reduced the surface absorbency. With no changes after a year, you're unlikely to see issues. Just avoid sudden shifts in humidity or temperature.
