Artist Question: Should you use a fixative to fix a soft pastel on Pastelbord?

A: We generally recommend framing pastel artwork under glass instead of using a fixative, since sprays can dull color and flatten the soft texture. If you want to try a fixative, test it on a less important piece first. Choose one labeled for pastels, and keep in mind that some protection, either fixative or glass, is needed to prevent smudging and moisture damage over time.
