Four Artists, 12 Months: Month #5 – “ISOLATION”

Yes, its month # 5 of a year-long collaborative project with our four artists creating on Ampersand Gessobord! Every month, these artists interpret a theme using a 12″x12″ Deep Cradled Ampersand Gessobord and the medium of their choice.  Then, at the end of 12 months, they will all come together for an exhibition. See our original post for the details of this wonderful collaboration.

The fifth month’s theme is “ISOLATION” and is to be interpreted using cantilever composition. A cantilevered composition is defined by large configuration entering the format from any side and ending within it. The cantilevered parts can connect with other parts o the composition, but occasionally they may stand alone. Cantilevered forms can also be met by similar ones approaching from the other side. Compositions based on this structure usually show the cantilevered segment as exerting a substantial amount of visual and physical weight that must be counterbalanced in some way!

Check out their work below to see their take using their own unique approach and style.

Truly a remarkable journey four talented artists are taking together. Thanks for taking us along and including a monthly view. I’m finding this incredibly spiritual and unsettling, in a good way.
