Four Artists, 12 Months: Month #7 – “NURTURING”

We are on month #7 of a year-long collaborative project! A different theme and artistic focus have been set for each month that four artists interpret using a 12″x12″ Deep Cradled Ampersand Gessobord and their own chosen medium. At the end of the project, all the work will be displayed together in an exhibition. See our original post for the details of this fantastic collaborative project.

The seventh month’s theme is “Nurturing” and is to be interpreted using circles.

Enjoy their work below to see their interpretation using their own unique approach and style.

Pat Kodet
“The Circles of Life”
Acrylic on Ampersand Cradled Gessobord 12” X 12”

“Nurturing, encouraging the growth, as the circular fields in the landscapes.
My grandfather invented the center pivot irrigation system that creates the circular fields you see around the world.”

Pat shares the silver dots represent silver dollars her grandfather brought them when they were children and the circles represent different members and generations of her family.

Meg Walling
“The Sanctuary of Each Other (Nurturing)”
Oil and Cold Wax on Ampersand Cradled Gessobord 12” X 12”

“Succulents nestled together evokes an image for me of the shelter found within families and groups of good friends, the proximity of trusted others that makes me feel safe, supported and connected.”

Sylvia Torres
“Avian Lovers”
Collage on Ampersand Cradled Gessobord 12” X 12”

“My submission for this month is a paper collage communicating and defining nurturing between these avian lovers. They care for each other with great devotion and affection. A lifetime of courtship and intimacy. This work is composed completely with paper from my rather large collection of art papers, and without the addition of any paint.”

Andrea Raft
“The Nurturing Moon”
Mixed Media (Painter, Paper, Metal Leaf) on Ampersand Cradled Gessobord 12” X 12”.

“When I think of a circle it automatically conjures up a full moon, and the moon rules those innately female qualities that have to do with being motherly, protective and nurturing. Having studied Eastern Philosophy, the Buddha also falls under the protection of the Moon. This particular month was the most natural for me, I think it most represents my artistic style and interests. Nature, Spirit, Nurturer”
