Four Artists, 12 Months: Month #10 – “Courage”

We’re coming down to the wire with month #10 of a year-long collaborative project on Ampersand Gessobord! Each month, four artists interpret a theme utilizing the medium of their choice on a 12″x12″ Deep Cradled Ampersand Gessobord. At the end of the 12 months, they will all come together for an exhibition. See our original post for the details of this wonderful collaboration.

Month 10’s theme is “Courage” and is to be interpreted using metallic.

Sylvia Torres
“Do One Thing Every Day That Scares You”
Acrylic Paint on Ampersand Cradled Gessobord 12”x12”

“This work was created with acrylic paint on handmade and Asian papers, with metallic gold and silver foils, and features a quote from Eleanor Roosevelt: “Do one thing every day that scares you.” This quote certainly means COURAGE to me. If a new endeavor doesn’t scare you, then you are not growing and not working hard enough.”

Andrea Raft
“Metal of Valor”
Acrylic Paint, Metal Leaf, and Found Objects on Ampersand Cradled Gessobord 12″x12″

“In Honor of the Men and Women of Valor who protect and defend our great nation.
Feeling patriotic in this time of political division.
Elements such as rock and metal suggest courage and strength.”

Pat Kodet
“Stars of Courage”
Acrylic Paint on Ampersand Cradled Gessobord 12”x12”

“Heroic Acts Against Tyrants or Stars of Courage was painted with acrylic paint and acrylic metallic paints. Some stars are erased by time, while others shine brightly.”

Meg Walling
“Difficulty Becomes Familiar (COURAGEOUS)”
Oil, Cold Wax, and Holographic Foil on Ampersand Cradled Gessobord 12″x12″

“Sometimes my own dark thinking threatens to limit my reach. If I remember that the purpose of this empty place is to push me to find strength, to remind me that I am not alone, and to reaffirm the truth that I have succeeded before, then I can take the leap and know “I’ve got this.” Flapping your arms can be flying.”
