Four Artists, 12 Months: Month #12 – “Romantic”

Wow! Time flies when you’re having fun! This is the final month of a year-long collaborative project with Ampersand Gessobord! Each month for the past year, four artists have been interpreting a theme utilizing the medium of their choice on a 12″x12″ Deep Cradled Ampersand Gessobord. Now that they are finished, they will all come together for an exhibition that we will be sure to announce and feature here! See our original post for the details of this wonderful collaboration.

The final month’s theme is “Romantic” and is to be interpreted using warm reds.

“Aiming for Love”

The Romantic is shooting their arrows toward love or the state of being idealistic and fantastical.

“Be Love (ROMANTIC)”
Oil and Cold Wax on Ampersand Cradled Gessobord 12″x12″

Lavish, elaborate, baroque, floral, sensual, extravagant, bountiful, luscious, voluptuous, sumptuous, luxurious, opulent, tender, warm, velvet, verdant, juicy, delicious, delectable, desirable, abundant in a romantic warm red. You want love? Be love.

A year ago, we began our collaboration with JOY, an “Abstracted State of Mind” that I painted with a warm vibrant red. I created ROMANTIC, the theme of our final month, with the same warm vibrant red without consciously registering the echo of that beginning. The year-long collaboration is complete. The circle is closed. A wonderful year of painting!

It’s hard to believe that this image will complete our year-long collaboration! My sincere thanks to everyone at Ampersand for partnering with us. I was proud to be affiliated with Ampersand because they make the BEST products and support artists so generously.

“An Open Rose, An Open Heart, (ROMANTIC)”
Oil and cold wax on Ampersand Cradled Gessobord 12”x12”

This rose is like a truly open heart. It’s petals open and reach out to love the world. Look closely and you will see the petals of the rose forming hearts as they wind around and around the rose center.

Andrea Raft
“Song of the Flower”
Mixed Media Acrylic paint, paper, on Ampersand Cradled Gessobord 12″x12″

Inspired by snippets from a poem by the same name. Written by Gibran Khalil

I am the lover’s gift;
I am the wedding wreath;
I am the memory of a moment of happiness;
I am the last gift of the living to the dead;
I am a part of joy and a part of sorrow;

But I look up high to see only the light,
and never look down to see my shadow,
this wisdom which man must learn.

Our twelfth and last month! FEELING SAD TO HAVE TO BE ENDING THIS INSPIRATIONAL PROJECT. Thank you Ampersand for allowing us to grace your blog with our artwork. It has truly been a gift, making it so much more inspiring and fun.
